Assam assembly abolishes pre-Independence era practice of Friday 'namaz' break

The Assam assembly will discontinue the two-hour break on Fridays for Muslim legislators to offer 'namaz', Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced. Introduced in 1937, this practice aimed at providing a break for prayer. The change will be effective from the next session, emphasizing productivity and secularism.
