Justice Siddharth Mridul appointed chief justice of Manipur High Court

Justice Siddharth Mridul has been appointed as the chief justice of the Manipur High Court, three months after being recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointment comes amidst ethnic turmoil in the border state. The views of the state chief minister, required for the appointment, were awaited, causing a delay. Additionally, the collegium recommended the transfer of Justice M V Muralidaran of the Manipur High Court to the Calcutta High Court for "better administration of justice", despite his request to continue in Manipur or be transferred to his parent High Court of Madras.
