India, China negotiation on border a battle of its own

India and China are attempting to resolve remaining border disputes in Eastern Ladakh, particularly regarding patrolling rights in the Depsang plains. Talks have been held at the military level, with indications that further rounds may be necessary for progress. The main issues are Chinese occupation of a feature that restricts Indian troop access and the pitching of tents by Chinese forces at another location. Negotiations have been challenging, with both sides exercising caution due to distrust following clashes in 2020. The talks aim to establish limits on patrolling and restore the status quo ante as of May 2020.
