Despite no navigational approach at airstrip, Garud commandos and IAF officials carried out daring rescue in Sudan

The Indian Air Force and Garud Commandos conducted an overnight air-lift operation to rescue stranded Indians from Sudan’s unlit airstrip at Wadi Seidna, with no navigational aids, lighting or fuel. The IAF used Electro-Optical/Infra-Red sensors to secure the runway and ensure no adversary forces were present. A total of 121 personnel were rescued, including a pregnant woman and others without means to reach Port Sudan.
