Amit Shah looks to BS Yediyurappa to defeat Jagadish Shettar, other Lingayat defectors

Both Shettar and Savadi are Lingayat leaders from the Mumbai-Karnataka (Kittur Karnataka) region, who quit the party after a lot of noise and are fighting elections on Congress tickets. The region accounts for 50 seats across six districts, and the party has traditionally been strong there. Shettar is contesting from the Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency and Savadi from Athani.
