EC delists 87 registered unrecognised parties, seeks action against 2,174 more

Section 29C of RPA requires an unregistered party to furnish a contribution report under Rule 85B of Conduct of Election Rules 1961. Such contributions received by the parties are also 100% exempted from income tax, but parties are mandated to furnish audited annual statements. EC found 87 non-existent parties after physical verification and deleted them from the list of register of unrecognised registered political parties. They have been asked to approach EC within 30 days if they had evidence to the contrary.
